Centomiglia Returns to Lake Garda Amid Regatta and Championship Plans

The return of the Centomiglia to Lake Garda Trentino could happen very soon. If it does, it will undoubtedly be a welcomed return after what has been, at the initiative of the organizing committee, an exile: a protest against the ban imposed by Trento on motorized navigation, which, without any exemption, effectively excluded the large convoy of motorboats from the regatta.

The organizers of the Circolo Vela di Gargnano are working on the return, alongside the leaders of the Circolo Vela Torbole. In fact, it is these latter who are negotiating with the Province to obtain visas to reinstate motorized navigation in just one day.

Spectacle and Promotion of the Regatta

Everyone cares about witnessing the spectacle of the large sails billowing in the wind. The buoy positioned off the Gulf of Torbole has always been a guaranteed race crossing point where the wind certainly did not fail, often coming after long periods of calms in the lower lake.

This has also been one of the most competitively contested and interesting points, especially for the multitude of enthusiasts who follow the tacking and gather not only on support boats but also along the nearby Gardesana road, and, importantly, for the television coverage, which is beneficial for publicity in the high Garda area given the international prominence of the Centomiglia. Naturally, sponsors are expected to play a key role as well.

Announcement of the Agreement and Program of Events 2001

The imminent agreement was announced alongside the presentation of the book published for the 50th anniversary of the prestigious regatta, received by the club president, Santoni, during the traditional year-end dinner offered by the sailing club to its numerous collaborators. This convivial gathering also allowed the club to preview the 2001 event schedule.

The season also looks very busy. Among the planned events are two world championships and one European championship.

In total, twelve events will be organized. Starting in April, when the Europa class dinghies will compete. In May, the 4th International Melges 24 Week, a boat that will also compete in September for the European title. In early June, the Star class returns for the 28th district championship.

Immediately afterward, the Alpen Cup will take place for the Dart and A Cat classes. At the end of June, the small Optimist will race, followed by the Hobie Tiger, which will participate in one of the two world championships. In July, surfing will take center stage with the renewal of the King of the Lake. August will feature Soling and FD. In September, after the Melges European Championship, the second world championship will be held for the B 14 class. Finally, the 31st Tornado Torbole Trophy and the Winter Championship are scheduled.
