Child-Centered Civic Initiatives Highlight New S. Felice Mayor Election
The new mayor of the “City of Children” in S. Felice is Nicolò Baccolo, from class 3 G. The “baby” municipal council elections were held at the ” Angelo Zanelli” middle school, a branch section of “28 maggio ’74” in Manerba.
Three lists were presented: “Insieme“, which received 84 votes out of 156, “I lupi“, and “Vola“. During the electoral campaign, the candidates presented their programs. At the end of last week, the votes were cast, following the same procedures established for municipalities with fewer than five thousand inhabitants.
Alongside Baccolo (the former Urban Planning assessor who took the place of Silvia Comaglio), the elected were Giovanni Tonoli (third I), Marzia Ferrari (third G), Federica Raggi (first G), Carolina Meloni (third G), Matteo Tononi (third G), Elena Avanzini (third G), Nicole Silvestri (first G), and Daniele Luzzari (first H). The opposition will be represented by Stanislav Frugoni (third G), Simone Sandri (third H), Marta Piccinardi (second H), and Mickael Ricca (third H).
Proclamation and Concluding Activities
The proclamation of the results took place in the presence of the principal, Gian Paolo Comini, and the mayors of San Felice (Ambrogio Florioli) and Puegnago (Gianfranco Comincioli). Following this, a modern dance performance was held, offered by the Municipal Administration.
“The purpose of the initiative — explain Professors Lucia Lanzi Aime and Roberto Tagliani — is to encourage the participation of children, aiming to highlight grassroots proposals and to lead them toward decisions of general utility. The objectives are to promote civic consciousness, understanding of the importance of the common good, and the safeguarding of collective heritage.
The intention also is to stimulate active contribution to the social life of their community through constructive proposals and to offer suggestions to the Adult City Council.” The programs include: meeting other youth councils for experience exchange; bringing ideas developed during the school year to the municipality; implementing the school project “Natura, storia e folclore a Puegnago“, which will involve all extended-time workshops in theatrical, musical, multimedia, and operational activities.
Future Events and Projects
Finally, there are plans to re-present the May Festival, following its usual joyful style. The last edition was held over two days, emphasizing ecology, with orienteering competitions on foot, by bicycle, scooter, or rollerblades. The entire event took place on a traffic-free route.
Divided into groups, the children responded to crosswords, riddles, and quizzes, up to the halfway point. A sort of giant treasure hunt. In the main square of the town, a series of performances included the “Air Game” (questions about nitrogen, the greenhouse effect, and more), live music (songs composed by the children themselves, along with an original little orchestra made of stones, shells, bamboo, wood, coconut, pumpkins, and percussion instruments), and displays of decorated glass plates, drawings, nursery rhymes, fairy tales, and research work.
The highlight of the project was the development of a cycle-pedestrian route from S. Felice to Portese, utilizing the existing sidewalk space. The necessary interventions included: installing a traffic light, placing road signs and horizontal signage, and modifying the asphalt surface to reduce unevenness. This project was deemed “very interesting” by Florioli, the “real” mayor.
