The Committee to Preserve the Hospital of Desenzano has recently expressed strong concerns regarding the lack of citizen participation in decisions related to the future of the local hospital. In a statement, the group emphasized that, after months of ignored requests, they finally managed to secure a meeting with Mayor Lavelli during a protest outside the Sirmione Town Hall. However, only four committee members were allowed to attend the meeting, while the press was excluded. The Committee reiterated the importance of a public discussion to address the feasibility study approved for a new hospital in Desenzano d/G, highlighting that political decisions regarding healthcare should actively involve citizens.
During the meeting, the Committee sought clarification on the convening of the Assembly of Mayors and the implementation of regulations that require annual public meetings with citizens. Despite the Mayor’s proposal to participate in future assemblies to discuss the issues raised, the Committee continues to urge for a formal response regarding the procedures for conducting these meetings. Meanwhile, a letter has been sent to the General Management of ASST Garda to request compliance with current regulations on public participation. The response received stated that such meetings would be optional; however, the Committee firmly asserts that participation should not be viewed as a concession, but rather as a fundamental right of citizens.
