Civil Protection School in Sirmione Turns Storm Into a Lesson

The civil protection summer camp at Punta Gro in Sirmione has concluded after five days of activities for 20 participants aged 11 to 13. The initiative, organised by the Protezione Civile Basso Garda Association with the Municipality of Sirmione, ran from 13 to 17 July and included a last-morning response to a severe thunderstorm, with participants moved to the Camp Tiglio facilities as a practical emergency-management exercise.

During the week, the group met local and national emergency and safety services, including the Sirmione Local Police, the State Police, the Fire Brigade from the Brescia provincial command, divers, the mounted unit, and the canine unit, as well as Cadetti Basso Garda. The programme also featured a visit to Isola del Garda and activities focused on safety, environmental protection, and group life; the fourth edition included Stefano Vallari from the Civil Protection Department.

On the final day, volunteers managed the bad weather with support from the campsite to keep the group safe. The camp ended with a lesson on using a defibrillator and the awarding of certificates in the presence of Mayor Luisa Lavelli. The association and the municipality said they plan to repeat the camp in summer 2027.
