Starting January 20, the San Zeno tunnel in Lonato del Garda will be closed for a period of three months. This decision has been made to allow for necessary upgrades and safety improvements to the infrastructure, which is vital for local traffic.

The complete closure of the tunnel is deemed essential, considering the strategic importance of the structure. It serves as the main link between Desenzano and Brescia, in addition to serving the municipalities of Valtenesi and facilitating access to the highway through the Barcuzzi area. During this time, a significant increase in traffic on alternative routes such as Via Mazzardi is expected.

Following the initial three months of total closure, there will be an additional nine months during which the tunnel will only be accessible at night, from 8:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Local authorities have already notified that heavy traffic will need to divert to the highway to mitigate the inconveniences caused by the situation.

This initiative is part of a larger project aimed at improving road safety in the area and ensuring that the infrastructure meets the needs of the growing traffic volume. The Garda Community is closely monitoring the progress of the work and is committed to keeping the public informed about developments and any changes to traffic plans.
