Controversy Erupts Over Bike Lane Changes on Via Custoza in Desenzano
Desenzano has recently implemented a double cycling and pedestrian lane along Via Custoza, removing all parking spaces as part of a temporary section of the new cycling ring. The measure has faced opposition from local residents and motorists, with councilor Andrea Spiller of the Five Star Movement criticizing the changes.
Spiller claims the new segment is disconnected from the existing network, citing missing bike lanes on nearby Viale Marconi and Via Mezzocolle, and highlights safety concerns due to numerous driveways and pedestrian crossings. The local government describes the modification as temporary, pending railway viaduct construction, but residents report loss of parking and access to their homes, with over 100 cemented posts installed on the freshly resurfaced road.
