Dalai Lama to Visit Trento and Arco for Peace and Cultural Events

The Dalai Lama, the “papa of the East,” will also stop in Arco during his official visit to Trentino next June. Confirmation, following a series of rumors, was announced earlier this week at the town hall, in the presence of Mayor Veronesi. The Tibetan spiritual leader will arrive in Trento on June 27, where he will stay for a couple of days until Friday, June 29.

Details about the visit to Trentino

On the day of his departure, he will head to the city of palms for about an hour-long visit. The event is organized by a committee made up of all associations that are part of the Forum for Peace, in collaboration with the University and the Province of Trento. His Holiness, a symbol of the Tibetan struggle against Chinese occupation and a Nobel laureate, has agreed to come to Arco to visit the Garden of Peace, inaugurated some time ago by the Arco municipal administration.

As is customary for visiting dignitaries, the Dalai Lama will plant a tree; in this case, it will be a pomegranate tree, symbolizing wealth and unity.

Preparations and ceremonial aspects

“At the end of April, the Tibetan ambassador will be in Trentino and also in Arco,” explains Culture Assessor Ruggero Morandi, one of the promoters of the initiative, “to outline the organizational aspects of the visit, which will be quite complex and special, given that there is a strict protocol to follow. The Dalai Lama cannot be touched, and we also need to understand whether he will be able to give a short speech.”

“This is certainly a unique opportunity to get to know the highest spiritual authority of Tibet up close.”
