Deputy Mayor Prandi Seeks Agreement on Sprayer Regulations for Cycle Paths
The concerns of farmers who must keep sprayers thirty meters away from bike paths during anti-pest treatments are not shared by Deputy Mayor Sergio Prandi, who has jurisdiction over the matter. In his opinion, the municipal ordinance against which the farmers have taken a stand does not apply to the cycle-pedestrian paths. Nonetheless, the deputy mayor states he is willing to discuss the issue, because in any case farmers should not be penalized.
Deputy Mayor’s Position and Future Perspectives
“We will need to prepare an agreement that regulates this delicate issue,” comments Sergio Prandi. “The problem is not only the new cycle path between Arco and Ceniga. Instead, it concerns the entire municipal cycle network, which will become extensive with the implementation of the so-called light traffic plan.”
“In my view, the agreement must be prepared before this program of pedestrian and cyclist links becomes a reality. Farmers will indeed need to exercise maximum caution during treatments, but on the other hand, those using the cycle paths are tourists or generally people spending their leisure time here and thus can also be attentive.”
“What I want to say is that farmers work, they do not have fun.” While waiting for clearer rules, the municipality and the land improvement cooperatives will install signs at the entrances to the cycle paths indicating the possibility of anti-pest spraying and the functioning of sprinkler irrigation.
