An Inspectorate for the “defense” of the race was active in Desenzano, representing a dark aspect of the history of the RSI that deserves attention. On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Liberation, twenty articles by Bruno Festa are being published, analyzing the events related to the Italian Social Republic, with particular reference to the operations of the General Inspectorate for Race, headed by Giovanni Preziosi. This body, established under the direct authority of Benito Mussolini in March 1944, was located on Via Dal Molin and operated without intermediaries, communicating directly with the Duce.
Preziosi distinguished himself for his fervent support of racial policies and maintained frequent contact with Mussolini, demonstrating a rare dedication among the regime’s officials. His career tragically culminated on April 27, 1945, when he took his own life in Milan. The history of the Inspectorate and its key figures offers a significant insight into the political and social dynamics of that historical period, highlighting the impact of totalitarian ideologies on local communities.
