Desenzano Art Exhibition Features Domenico Mantelli’s Landscapes of Garda

On Saturday, the Galleria civica di Desenzano will host the opening of the art exhibition «In the Gardens of Painting»: a collection of works by Domenico Mantelli. The Gardesano artist will display watercolors, tempera paintings, and mixed media works. Essentially, these are scenographic and expressive elaborations inspired by the impressions left on him by the ‘musical’ qualities of the presented artwork.

Description of the exhibition

«It is implicitly an homage to Garda and its tranquil yet dramatic landscapes — explains Mantelli as he introduces the exhibition —. A single architectural or geographical element is enough to construct around it a serene and lyrical landscape, or a dramatic one, with steep rocks and almost devoid of vegetation.

But landscapes can also originate from memory, and in this case, the spark is given by listening to a particular piece of music, or by scenographic cues provided by the libretto of the opera itself».

Characteristics of the works and exhibition details

«The trees and rocks in the most creatively rich landscapes — concludes the artist — are those that do not have a specific reference to the surrounding reality, but emerge from an emotion or reflection. They are built with brushstrokes and shapes that do not follow the external details of nature, but instead realize its visual and expressive message».

The opening ceremony is scheduled for 5 pm on Saturday. The exhibition will remain open every day — from Tuesday to Sunday — until April 29; from 10 am to 12 pm and 3 pm to 7 pm. Free admission.
