Desenzano Book Launch Highlights Hidden Churches and Cultural Heritage
Historical Bibliographic Event, this afternoon at 5 p.m., in the Desenzano hall Peler of Palazzo Todeschini: the historical studies association «Carlo Brusa» will present the book written by Giuseppe Tosi and titled «The Forgotten Churches»; a sort of sacred itinerary in the territory of Desenzano. The volume, published with the sponsorship of the Culture Department of Desenzano, is the result of meticulous research and has the merit of collecting in one volume the remaining testimonies of a significant religious, artistic, and cultural heritage, whose richness and variety could surely surprise many people accustomed only to Desenzano for shopping.
It is, in fact, easy to predict that the book will become an essential reference for anyone wanting to learn more about an important chapter of the city’s history.
Details and Significance of the Work
«We also hope that Tosi’s work — supports the «Carlo Brusa» association — can serve as a useful stimulus for future preservation and restoration initiatives of many monuments, some of which are in deplorable neglect. This is precisely our idea of culture: not a sterile academic exercise, but a knowledge of the past capable of guiding current interventions. Thanks to the author, we also encounter ancient pieve churches scattered across the solitude of the fields, noble chapels, and small shrines where countless humble generations have prayed and expressed their faith and hope.»
Giuseppe Tosi is no stranger to research. Among his works, for example, are «The Church of Santa Maria Maddalena in Desenzano del Garda (1983 – second edition 1986)», and «Desenzano ’900 (1987)». Roberto Darra
