Desenzano Carabinieri Boost Staffing to Tackle Summer Crime Wave

News and Strengthening Measures at the Desenzano Outpost

Updates at the Carabinieri Company of Desenzano. Captain Franco Giandinoto, after completing his course in Rome, has been promoted to Major. He will continue to lead the station for at least another year.

Reinforcements have arrived at the company. Six new Carabinieri join the already active personnel. This enhancement has been arranged in anticipation of the summer period, when tourist flow—especially on weekends and mid-summer—quadruples the population of Desenzano and Sirmione.

Not counting vacationers who arrive at the southern Garda area during weekends. To manage the increased presence and tackle a crime wave—including car thefts, home burglaries, as well as thefts in campsites, residences, hotels, and resorts, along with drug trafficking—four Carabinieri will be deployed in Desenzano until September; the other two reinforce the Sirmione station.

Presence and Interventions of Law Enforcement

On average, each night the Desenzano company deploys between five and six teams. In addition to the Radio Mobile Unit, plainclothes patrols are also active. This presence serves as a deterrent.

Break-ins in homes have decreased, partly due to the prompt response by Carabinieri following calls to 112 reporting suspicious individuals or active thieves.

Every night, Carabinieri and officers from the Desenzano Police Station stop dozens of people for checks. There is a significant presence of illegal immigrants, mainly from the east, observed between June and July around Garda. Criminal activity, such as thefts, has decreased compared to last year.
