Desenzano Celebrates Sant’Angela Merici with Book Launch and Sports Events

This is the first scheduled event, but it will not only feature the presentation of the book dedicated to Sant’Angela Merici as part of the celebrations honoring the patroness of Desenzano.

Bibliographical launch and Eucharistic celebration

Following the bibliographical launch, scheduled for tomorrow evening at 8:45 PM at the Palazzo del Turismo (Bresciaoggi discussed it in yesterday’s edition), in the presence of Pietro Borzomati, professor of Contemporary History at the Università di Perugia; historian Elisa Tarolli; and don Bruno Fasani, director of Verona Fedele, on Saturday at 5 PM the Duomo di Desenzano will host a concelebrated Eucharistic mass presided over by monsignor Sennen Corrà, emeritus bishop of Pordenone, involving priests from Desenzano and those who served in the Garda town.

Sporting events and celebrations

Sunday will be marked by sporting events organized by the parrocchia del Duomo, under the patronage of the Sport Department of the Comune di Desenzano.

In the morning, starting at 9 AM, the «San’Angela Walk» will take place, celebrating its fifteenth edition this year.

In the afternoon, at 2 PM, the second «San’Angela Bike Ride», a mountain biking race, will kick off.

The routes for both races will be identical. The start is from piazza Malvezzi, beneath the statue of the saint, and finish at the football field in via dei Caporali.

Participants will follow a loop that winds through the inland areas of Desenzano, across the Morenic hills overlooking the lake: a truly enchanting setting for a competitive race expected to be fiercely contested.

Runners will complete the route once, while cyclists, being faster, will need to do four laps.

The life of Sant’Angela Merici

Sant’Angela Merici was born in Desenzano in 1474. Her father was from Brescia, her mother from Salò.

After their parents’ death, Angela Merici moved to Salò, but in 1496 she returned to Desenzano to manage an estate owned by her family in the Grezze area.

During that period, tradition says she had a vision that propelled her onto the path of dedication to others.

Next weekend, Desenzano will dedicate a volume, celebrate sporting competitions, and hold festivities: a celebration for the entire community.
