Desenzano Crime Concerns Prompt Community Meeting on July 21

A large community assembly to discuss security and crime issues in Desenzano. The request came from the leader of Lega Nord, Rino Polloni, and was supported by all the mayors’ group leaders of the Municipal Council of Desenzano, who will dedicate a special “open” session to the topic on July 21, at Palazzo Todeschini.

An “open” session of the Municipal Council means that in July, all citizens will have the opportunity to speak, through their associations and spontaneous committees. The councilors also hope that representatives from law enforcement, both local and not, will participate.

The crime problem in Desenzano

But does a real crime problem exist in Desenzano? The town is not the Bronx; life flows relatively peacefully. However, it is true that alarming incidents and situations are increasing in frequency.

The list of incidents that convinced Polloni to call for a community assembly is long: a bulletin summarizing a year of Desenzano crime news. It’s an almost impossible list to read aloud in one breath. But here it is: “In early July ’99, following a fight between Albanians, there was a stabbing of a non-EU national in Via Roma, right in the city center.

A week later, during a fight between Moroccans in the parking lot of the cemetery, a person was seriously injured. On August 19 of the same year, a Moroccan car thief, after stealing a car and fleeing onto the ring road chased by police, lost control and killed three people and injured two others.” The bleak report compiled by Polloni continues: “Shopkeepers in the historic center are exasperated by the arrogance of illegal vendors, who display their goods in front of store windows.

A protest letter with numerous signatures was sent to the mayor of Desenzano.” And further: “On Tuesday, May 23, municipal police officers and officers from the Public Security Police intercepted some illegal immigrants at the train station, who resisted arrest, sending three officers to hospital.

At the public parking lot of the Maratona, a gang of Albanians has organized extortion, threatening anyone who refuses to pay protection money. On May 26, two residents of Vaccarolo were assaulted and injured outside their home by another group of Albanians. And to conclude, the following week, in Rivoltella, at Pigna, a family was slept through and robbed.”

All this was enough to warrant a community assembly. To hear moods, opinions, and solutions, the appointment is on the evening of July 21.
