Desenzano del Garda Administration Clarifies Municipal Accounts Amid Controversy

The Desenzano municipal administration released a clarification on Rendiconto Desenzano, approved at the latest city council on Monday, April 27, addressing what it says are misleading interpretations of the municipal budget, IMU, and the town’s revenues and expenses.

The administration explains that the tax burden is not borne only by residents because the presence of many second homes and the IMU exemption on primary residences shifts IMU revenue mainly to non-residents. It rejects the €1,395 figure cited by Councillor Comini as unfounded, noting it was calculated only for residents. The departure in revenues concerns only the capital account linked to PNRR projects to be completed in 2026, while the current account shows increased revenues and spending. The claim of a reduced tourist tax is denied, since 2024 registered higher overall revenue thanks to the recovery of unpaid amounts exceeding €100,000. Services were not suspended or reduced; the cited savings involve reallocations to 2026, as explained by Mayor Guido Malinverno. Finally, the auditors’ opinion attached to the resolution reportedly found no critical issues or observations.
