A decisive intervention took place in Desenzano del Garda, where a thirty-year-old police officer from Prato saved the life of a man intent on committing suicide. The incident occurred following an emergency call reporting a critical situation in a local residence. The fifty-year-old, in a state of severe agitation and armed with a knife, had already inflicted cuts on his arms after a fight with his wife. Thanks to the mediation of the officer and his colleagues, a dialogue was established that led the man to relinquish the weapon, thus averting a tragedy.
The SIAP agency in Milan recognized the courage and professionalism demonstrated by the officer during the intervention, officially proposing a commendation for his actions. According to Daniele Possemato, the general secretary of Siap in Brescia, the officer’s actions not only fulfilled professional duties but also highlighted essential human qualities in the work of law enforcement. Subsequent medical examinations revealed that the man had consumed drugs, contributing to his severe mental agitation.
