Desenzano Hospital Enhances Oncology Care with Multidisciplinary Training

“The Azienda Ospedaliera di Desenzano del Garda has always paid particular attention to the issue of quality. Consequently, staff training and technical/scientific updates are considered by this Institution as strategic tools to reaffirm – and in some aspects redefine – the operational model, which centers public intervention on the user with their needs.”

With these words, the general director of AO di Desenzano del Garda, Dr. Angelo Foschini, discusses a topic of great interest—conceptually and practically—in a moment when continuous improvement of the quality of services provided and their constant monitoring are reaffirmed as priorities.

Multidisciplinary Days

The opportunity to reinforce this fundamental concept/guide is offered by the presentation of the Multidisciplinary Days for doctors and nurses, which begin today, Saturday the 6th, and will continue on October 12th, 18th, 24th, and 31st.

This initiative is titled Quality of care for oncological patients. It was initiated and organized by Dr. Walter Piubello, director of the Department of Medicine at the Azienda Ospedaliera di Desenzano, who collaborated with and relied on the efforts of the Training and Continuing Education Service, headed by Dr. Rossella Goglioni.

The course – starting today with the introductory day dedicated to Oncology in the third millennium – is aimed at both doctors and nurses. Its goal, as explained by Dr. Piubello, is to “improve and make the operator’s behavior in relation to patients with oncological diseases appropriate, through a change of attitudes and an increase in knowledge, reinforced by personal reflections on humanistic topics.”

Program and Interventions

The sessions will begin at 9:00 in the auditorium of the Montecroce hospital under the chairmanship of Professor Lorenzo Magno. The interventions, moderated by Walter Piubello himself, will address topics ranging from risk factor assessment, diagnostics, to palliative care.

The space for training and updates

On the topic of training and updates, the medical director of AO, Professor Alfonso Castellani, also comments: “The Azienda Ospedaliera di Desenzano has given and continues to give ample space for staff training, and thanks to the Office skillfully led by Dr. Rossella Goglioni, has made a qualitative leap forward by proposing targeted interventions that have a significant impact not only within our Institution.”

“Many of our courses,” concludes the medical director, “have seen enthusiastic participation from learners from other healthcare companies, including outside the region.”
