Desenzano Prepares to Welcome President Ciampi for Historic Ceremony
All military and volunteer associations will be present, led by the delegation of the Croce Rossa (Red Cross), to welcome the President of the Republic, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, tomorrow in the square of the Torre di San Martino della Battaglia.
Preparations and Excitement in the Frazione of Desenzano
The frazione of Desenzano, rich in Risorgimento history, is in full swing, with preparations and last-minute touches intensifying in these final hours.
Because tomorrow will still be a major celebration for the Garda town.
The Welcome Ceremony and the Mayor’s Message
The Sunday ceremony does not include an address from the Mayor of Desenzano, Cino Anelli, who, along with Luigi Laini, the mayor in 1959, shares the honor and prestige of having hosted a head of state.
Nevertheless, Anelli is eager to express a welcoming message to Ciampi.
“Certainly, for the citizens — emphasizes Mayor Anelli — this is a unique, unrepeatable, extraordinary moment: having our beloved President Ciampi here among us to deliver a message of peace and to remind, especially the younger generations, of November 4, 1918, which ultimately unified Italy. This is undoubtedly an occasion that will not be repeated in the near future.
Desenzano will be able to host the President of the Republic with great enthusiasm; all military and volunteer associations have mobilized to surround him with affection and patriotism, considering that these hills mark the beginning of the long process of freedom and reunification of our country, starting with the bloody battles of Solferino and San Martino.
In conclusion, I would like to publicly thank our President for choosing our city to deliver his message of peace to the entire nation tomorrow.”
