Desenzano Protesters Rally Against Lavagnone Incubator

Protests are growing in Desenzano del Garda against the planned construction of a poultry incubation facility in Via Lavagnone, next to the Lavagnone archaeological site. The project would cover 6,278 square metres over two floors, reach 9 metres in height, and is intended to incubate 150,000 eggs per week, producing an average of 21,428 chicks per day, about 120 metres from the UNESCO-listed excavations.

The municipality granted the building permit a year ago through a technical act, without a vote by the city council or the executive, after approvals from ARPA, the Province and the Soprintendenza. The initiative, led by local resident Anna Campigotto with a network of citizens and associations, will intensify on Saturday with a 11:00 to 12:00 picket at the site, inviting participants to arrive on foot or by bicycle. Organisers say they collected hundreds of signatures within hours and are considering a legal appeal, after concerns raised by archaeologist Marta Rapi; the project had previously come to light following a complaint submitted by PD councillors.
