Desenzano to Twin with Chinese City Amid Growing Tourism and Wine Bonds
Twinning between Desenzano and a Chinese city
Upcoming twinning between Desenzano and a city in the People’s Republic of China. In recent days, the mayor Cino Anelli met with a Chinese delegation composed of Consul General in Milan, Gao Cun Ming, and Vice Consul Niu Xiling. Among the topics discussed was the possibility of establishing a twinning agreement.
This is almost certainly going to happen by next summer, at least according to the sources that reported the news. It marks the first official visit of a Chinese diplomat to Desenzano and, probably, along the entire Garda Riviera. The two consuls had previously been welcomed by Fabio Contato, owner of the Provenza winery in San Martino della Battaglia.
“Half an hour earlier,” recounts Contato, “I received a phone call informing me of their arrival. Later, I went to meet a diplomatic car from the People’s Republic of China carrying the two ambassadors and their entourage.”
Motivations and official meetings
The reason for this quick visit? “In the People’s Republic of China,” continues Contato, “Lugana wine has gained popularity in many establishments and hotels, so there is significant interest from some economic sectors in our famous Garda wine. The two diplomats also asked about the methods and technologies used in its production.”
It was inevitable, at that point, to taste some of the finest Lugana bottles. Later in the early afternoon, the two Chinese diplomats, accompanied by interpreters, traveled to Palazzo Bagatta, where Anelli and the entire City Council welcomed them.
Other twinning projects and collaborations
It should be remembered that Desenzano is already twinned with Isla de Sal in the Cape Verde and has a twinning project with two renowned tourist destinations on the Côte d’Azur, now part of a single entity: Antibes and Juan les Pins.
