Desenzano Unveils Carabiniere Monument Honoring Sacrifice and Service

The monument dedicated to the Carabiniere was inaugurated yesterday morning in Desenzano, built on the initiative of the Associazione Carabinieri with the collaboration of the Carabinieri in service and with the sponsorship of the municipal administrations of Desenzano, Pozzolengo, and Sirmione.

The work, unveiled during a solemn ceremony, depicts a Carabiniere dressed in the historic grand uniform of 1848. The bronze statue, standing 185 cm tall, was created using the lost-wax casting technique at the Briman art foundry in Verona. It rests on a pedestal made from three blocks of Botticino pink marble.

Details of the artwork and participants in the ceremony

It is the work of Angelo Angini, from Nove (Vicenza), a sculptor, poet, and painter with numerous significant achievements, including the Holy Door of St. Peter for the Jubilee. The monument was placed in Piazza Garibaldi under the shade of two centuries-old plane trees, aligning with the age of the Carabinieri.

The monument commemorates those who sacrificed their lives in defense of institutions.

Many members of the Carabinieri, both on leave and in service, participated in the ceremony; the mayor of Desenzano, Felice Anelli; the municipal council; the prefect Alberto De Muro; Colonel Carmine Adinolfi, provincial commander of the Carabinieri; Captain Franco Giandinoto, commander of the Desenzano Company; the Carabinieri Band of Lombardia; representatives of Association of Veterans and Carabinieri; and many residents of Desenzano.

On this occasion, Desenzano also hosted the Interprovincial Gathering of the Carabiniere in retirement.

Inauguration speech and presentation of the monument

The traditional speeches were delivered by Mayor Felice Anelli, Mario Arduino, and General of the Army, Sergio Fantozzini.

It was the president of the Carabinieri retirees of Desenzano, Cosimo Venneri, who symbolically donated the monument to the city, reading a parchment which was then handed to the mayor.

In the afternoon, at 6 p.m., the volunteer canine unit of the Carabinieri in retirement from Robecco d’Oglio performed an applauded demonstration at the Tre Stelle sports field. (e. mor.)
