Significant news comes from Gargnano, where the identification tag of the alpine soldier Giulio Comincioli is set to return home. This important discovery originates from Poland, thanks to the efforts of university professor Stefan Marcinkiewicz, who uncovered several identification tags in the former prisoner of war camp of Bogusze/Prostki. Giulio’s grandson, Alessandro Comincioli, received the notification and announced that, following the research in the autumn, the necessary information for the repatriation of the item will be provided.
Giulio Comincioli, originally from the Sasso district in Gargnano, was captured on September 9, 1943, at the Italian-Austrian border and subsequently transferred to the Stalag camp designated for Italians. Registered with the number 10499 I B/PR on his tag, he was later sent to Saxony. His grandson recounts that no family member was aware of his capture or detention in a Polish camp; his grandfather always kept this part of his life private. Now, thanks to the discovery of the military tag after 82 years, the memory of his sacrifice can finally be honored and reconstructed.
