A tragic incident occurred in Brenzone sul Garda on the afternoon of Sunday, June 8, when an 87-year-old tourist drowned while swimming approximately 20 meters from the breakwater. His wife, not seeing her husband resurface, immediately alerted emergency services. In response to the call, the Operations Room of the Coast Guard mobilized two naval units, the Italian Red Cross’s water ambulance, a unit from the Fire Brigade in Bardolino with divers, and a helicopter from Trento and Venice.
Shortly before 4:00 PM, the divers located the man’s body on the seabed at a depth of 10 meters and brought it back to shore, where he was pronounced dead. Local police officers also arrived at the scene to initiate the necessary investigations to reconstruct the dynamics of the incident. The Coast Guard reiterated the importance of water safety, advising against swimming immediately after eating to prevent unnecessary risks.
