Lombardy reaffirms its position as the second region in Italy for the number of environmental crimes, as highlighted in the Ecomafia Report 2025 presented by Legambiente on July 10 in Rome. Despite the efforts of authorities and law enforcement to combat environmental crime, the data shows an increase in offenses related to the cement cycle, with a 14.6% rise compared to the previous year, resulting in the region recording 1,009 illicit activities in this sector. Additionally, 147 eco-crimes have been reported in the last year, making Lombardy the fifth highest in the nation for such offenses.
Barbara Meggetto, president of Legambiente Lombardia, emphasized the importance of intensifying surveillance and control activities in light of the significant public investments planned for projects related to the PNRR funds and the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympics. The growing concern pertains not only to the illegal cement cycle but also to the overall monitoring activities necessary to protect the environment and ensure sustainable management of territorial resources.
