In recent days, scams targeting the elderly in Brescia have raised growing alarm among citizens, as highlighted by the numerous reports received by the Operations Center of the Police Headquarters. Criminals, posing as members of the Law Enforcement or professionals, employ social engineering techniques to deceive their victims with fabricated scenarios, such as arrests or traffic accidents. These scams aim to gain access to the homes of elderly individuals to steal valuable belongings or extort money through fraudulent requests.
The Chief of Police of Brescia, Paolo Sartori, emphasized the importance of telephone security and scam prevention, urging the public to pay particular attention to suspicious calls and not to open the door to strangers. It is essential to remember that Law Enforcement does not request money or personal information over the phone. In case of doubt, it is recommended to contact the Emergency Number 112 or use the “YOUPOL” app from the State Police to report any critical situations.
