Electric network explosion in Riva del Garda causes widespread blackout
Late last night, Thursday, September 11, a sudden explosion in the electrical network in Riva del Garda caused a significant blackout in the Alto Garda area. Just before midnight, two manholes in the medium-voltage electrical network exploded on Via Negrelli due to a short circuit, generating a thick column of smoke and resulting in a power outage over a wide area extending from Riva to Nago. Residents reported the emergency situation, finding themselves suddenly plunged into darkness.
Immediately following the incident, the fire brigade from Riva del Garda, along with carabinieri, police, and AGS technicians, arrived on the scene to ensure safety and restore electricity. During the operations, assistance was required on Via Prati, where an elderly woman and her dog had become trapped in an elevator due to the blackout; both were rescued unharmed. The restoration efforts lasted for several hours while investigations were initiated to determine the technical causes of the explosion.
