In the Mincio Park, which stretches from Mantua to Desenzano del Garda, there have been 200 environmental violations reported in 2024, despite the challenges associated with monitoring such a vast area. The fifty volunteer environmental guards, coordinated by Luigi Marcone, have noted an increase in infractions related to the transit and parking of unauthorized vehicles, particularly by fishermen from Eastern Europe involved in illegal fishing activities. Among the violations recorded are the lighting of fires, illegal camping, and the unauthorized cutting of trees.
In addition to environmental violations, there is a concerning trend of littering: approximately 50 reports have been made to local authorities regarding the improper disposal of garbage bags and inert materials. Some cases have been forwarded to the relevant authorities for alleged urban planning violations, such as that of a farmer reported for illegal construction work. President Maurizio Pellizzer emphasized the importance of the environmental guards’ work in protecting and enhancing the park, highlighting their crucial role in ecological monitoring and the preservation of the local environment.
