Environmentalists Protest Grana Padano in Desenzano del Garda
Three activists from the No Food, No Science collective interrupted the Christmas Concert at the Duomo in Desenzano del Garda last night, unfurling a protest banner against Consorzio Tutela Grana Padano, the event’s main sponsor; concert organisers announced they will pursue legal action against the protesters for defamation.
Stefano Berni, general director of Consorzio Grana Padano, called the activists “sparse and inexperienced” and accused them of being “foolish servants or paid by multinationals,” while criticising the spread of so‑called “cibo Monster” (synthetic and highly processed foods) as a threat to the environment and health and stressing the strategic importance of food ahead of projected population growth. The activists are known for previous protests targeting promoters of practices linked to environmental sustainability and animal welfare.
