Exotic boa sightings in Desenzano: alert and concern

A three-meter-long boa has been spotted in Montecroce in Desenzano, raising concerns among residents. The exotic snake, likely abandoned or escaped, has been reported multiple times near the hospital and along the road to Maguzzano di Lonato. The latest sighting comes from a shepherd, Silvio Maruelli, who recounted seeing the snake while walking his donkeys. Described as yellow with black stripes, the boa may struggle to survive the chilly autumn temperatures. The WWF has confirmed the exotic nature of the boa, emphasizing that the animal may not last long in a climate unsuitable for its species. Local authorities have been alerted, but so far, they have been unable to locate the snake; local police and CITES carabinieri have also been involved to check for any legal registrations. The situation has attracted media and community attention, as sightings of this snake raise questions about the responsibilities of owners regarding its potential abandonment or escape.
