A caregiver has been reported to the Carabinieri by the station in Monzambano on charges of exploitation of an incapable person after stealing 20,000 euros from the account of a 77-year-old man in Ponti sul Mincio. The situation came to light when the pensioner, who lives alone without relatives, contacted the social services of the municipality to report a significant shortfall in his savings, thus initiating an investigation by the authorities.
The investigations revealed that the woman, a 54-year-old of Ukrainian origin residing in Volta Mantovana, had abused the trust placed in her by the elderly man. Using the debit card entrusted to her for daily expenses, she managed to withdraw large sums over the course of ten months. The Carabinieri have now launched further inquiries into the matter to clarify what happened and ensure the protection of the elderly man.
