Expo Riva Hotel Highlights 2023: Grappa, Hospitality & Industry Innovation

Expo Riva Hotel has discovered grappa. Reaching its quarter-century, the fair that summarizes and showcases the best in hotel management in the world is betting on the locally-produced, humble distillate to restore its shine for an event that risks becoming dull each year.

Based on the ancient, rooted, and indispensable professionalism of a category that thrives on hospitality, sector techniques in the hotel industry are evolving at an astonishing pace. As a result, operators have increasingly more opportunities, both practically and theoretically, to verify and contrast different realities. Moreover, this is driven by increasingly fierce competition.

The fair and related events

Thus, the expo has in a way split into two parts: among the 311 exhibitors (which will be visited from Sunday, January 28, to Thursday, February 1, by about thirty thousand visitors, four-fifths of whom are professionals), those of Expo Hotel, which ranges from furniture and internal telephone systems to tableware and hydromassage bathtubs, from linens to large kitchen appliances, and others from Expo Food, all active in the catering sector.

Around this «fair», a cascade of events will take place between Sunday and Tuesday: conferences, debates, workshops, seminars. In this context, the first edition of Grappitalia stands out.

The event begins, as it is right and proper, with the product: six regional protection institutes and 31 important distilleries representing the best of national production (niche products and small quantities that are difficult to showcase on the large restaurant stage are excluded) bring to Riva a freight of fine bottles.

On Sunday the 28th, a discussion on the regionality of grappas is scheduled, followed by a sale of historic and rare bottles whose proceeds will go to support initiatives by Medici senza frontiere. Monday is dedicated to professionals, sommeliers, and restaurateurs.

On Tuesday, there will be a meeting with producers and «Women in Grappa», a presentation of women who are entrepreneurial in the distillation business. Every day, «ethereal suggestions» and tastings are planned — in other words, theory and practice of tasting (including a foray into pairing grappa with beer, which is quite problematic even if stunning).

Collaborations and themes

Then, Expo Hotel 2001 announces a collaboration with the school of Glion, the most prestigious hotel management university in the world: discussions will focus on online bed sales systems aimed at optimizing profitability.

Also on Sunday, a tribute to the highly topical theme of electromagnetism: in «Healthy Living», there will be discussions on how defending against wave bombardment can translate into increased well-being for all clients.

Three times a day, at Pavilion C2, there will be an intensive 2-hour course on knowledge, analysis, and guided tasting of beer with pairing suggestions.

Finally, the educational space of Amira, the association of 6,000 Italian maîtres, reserved for restaurant and bar owners, who will hold their national conference at Riva.
