Fake Carabinieri Scams Targeting Garda Hoteliers and Shop Owners
The Carabinieri are being impersonated by scammers who contact hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in Medio and Alto Garda by phone, offering subscriptions to magazines associated with the force.
These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to be from the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal guards.
How to recognize scams and how to respond
They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.
Therefore, beware and immediately notify genuine Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
if they have money, disappears and is no longer contactable.
