Fake Police Calls: How to Recognize and Respond to Scams

Themselves as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, craftsmen, and restaurateurs in the Medio and Alto Garda regions, proposing subscriptions to magazines affiliated with the force.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance, police, fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to fake magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

money or not, are no longer visible.
