Fasano-Salò Procession Marks Centuries-Old Tradition on July 12 Along the Gardesana
The traditional “Fasano Salò” procession of the Fasanèi, held to renew a vow to the Madonna del Carmine, will take place on Sunday, July 12. After the Angelus at the Fasano church, participants will walk along the Gardesana route to reach the Madonna del Carmine church in Salò, escorted by the local police.
The rite is documented since 1747, when it was linked to a severe drought, and has been renewed every second Sunday of July since then. Before the procession, there are scheduled events in Fasano’s church, and on Sunday evening the “Estate in Coro” concert series will feature the youth vocal group from Maderno, directed by Cristina Klein, with Giampietro Bertella on organ; local sources and a volume by Claudio Maffei also recall past practices such as participants wearing costumes imitating saints, women walking backward, and some attendees going barefoot.
