A tragic femicide in Castelnuovo occurred when a 41-year-old man, Douglas Reis Pedroso, killed his wife, Jessica Custodia de Lima Stapazzollo, aged 33, by inflicting multiple stab wounds in their apartment. The murder took place in a context of domestic violence, with the victim having previously reported mistreatment, although she later withdrew her complaint. The Verona Prosecutor’s Office revealed that the perpetrator was wearing an electronic bracelet to monitor his movements due to past violence, but he had removed it prior to the crime. The alarm was raised when friends of the woman were unable to contact her. When the Carabinieri arrived, they found the lifeless body of the woman, and Pedroso contacted law enforcement, threatening to commit suicide. The knife used in the murder was found in his car, and he had a criminal history that included charges of murdering women and sexual violence against Jessica’s sister. Due to the climate of abuse, Jessica’s custody of her daughter from a previous relationship had been revoked. Pedroso is currently under arrest, and investigations are ongoing to clarify further details of the incident. Italian Version
