Feralpi Group Targets Net Zero by 2050 as SBTi Approves Emissions Goals
Feralpi Group has received Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validation for its new 2050 targets, confirming the company’s decarbonisation strategy and its continuity with previously approved near-term goals for 2030. The validation covers emissions commitments for Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 and was announced by the group, with SBTi directly involved in the assessment.
For the long term, Feralpi Group targets a 90% reduction in specific emissions tied to the production of hot-rolled steel products within the sector’s core boundary by 2050 compared with 2022. It also aims to cut by 90% by 2050 the remaining absolute Scope 3 emissions outside the core boundary, prioritising direct reductions and planning to neutralise residual emissions ahead of net-zero. The roadmap includes electrifying processes to replace methane with electricity, increasing renewable energy use through self-generation and Guarantees of Origin as well as biomethane, improving energy efficiency and thermal recovery, sourcing more recycled raw materials, and expanding freight transport by rail.
