Starting on Tuesday 29 September 2026, La Storia in prima persona returns with a new series of public history talks on contemporary events. The meetings are led by Professor Marco Cuzzi of Università Statale di Milano and promoted by the Assessorato alla Cultura and the Biblioteca Arturo Sigurtà in Castiglione delle Stiviere. This year’s theme focuses on the 80th anniversary of the birth of the Italian Republic and on 1946, described as a key year in the start of Italy’s post-war contemporary history.
The four planned events will take place at Palazzo Pastore, Via Ascoli 31, with the following schedule: Tuesday 29 September at 18.30, La riscoperta della democrazia; Wednesday 7 October at 18.30, La transizione istituzionale, featuring Umberto di Savoia and the Referendum of 2 June; Wednesday 21 October at 18.30, Giugno 1946 – Giugno 1947, on the Republic’s first year; and Wednesday 28 October at 18.30, Vita quotidiana, società e costume, looking at the country in 1946.
According to Professor Cuzzi, 1946 was the year the Republic was born and the country was reborn after years of fascist oppression, wartime conflict and civil conflict. The talks will also be streamed live on the Facebook pages of the Biblioteca Arturo Sigurtà and Valore Castiglione.
