Over 5,000 young carp were released into the lake on Friday, May 9, 2025, as part of an important fish restocking initiative promoted by the Lombardy Region. This intervention marks a significant step towards the protection of an endemic and valuable species, the carp, whose population has drastically declined due to environmental factors and climate change. Unlike previous operations, this time the young fish were bred in captivity at a specialized hatchery in Desenzano del Garda, opening new prospects for the future of the species.
The regional assessor for Agriculture, Alessandro Beduschi, emphasized the importance of having stable breeders in the hatchery, which allows for an increase in releases into the lake and contributes to the preservation of the local natural heritage. The project not only aims to protect the carp but also to enhance its presence in the area. This initiative has been supported by the joint efforts of provincial police officers and other collaborators who monitored every phase of the breeding process up to the release into the natural environment.
