Fraudsters Impersonate Police to Sell Fake Magazine Subscriptions
They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to military magazines.
These are not military personnel but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, general police, fire brigade, or municipal police.
How to recognize scams
They often promote subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.
Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
if they are after money, ceases to make an appearance.
