Garda Area Fraudsters Pose as Police for Scam Subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to the force’s magazines.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, at different times, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal Police.

How to Recognize Scams

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement.

So, be vigilant and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

after obtaining money, no longer shows up.
