Garda Area Phone Scams: Carabinieri Impersonators Target Local Businesses

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to arm magazines.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, police, firefighters, or the Comune (Municipality) police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

if they ask for money, disappears without a trace.
