Garda-area scammers impersonate Carabinieri to target hoteliers and businesses

They pretend to be Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the middle and upper Garda area, proposing subscriptions to magazines associated with the force.

They are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, the fire department, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often offer subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by those who,

after receiving the money, disappear.
