Garda Area Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Trick Local Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the Middle and Upper Garda area, proposing subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not military personnel but con artists who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply call 112 — as soon as you suspect that you have been targeted by individuals who, after collecting the money, no longer show themselves.
