Garda Area Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Hoteliers and Shopkeepers

They impersonate carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in the middle and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to Arma-related magazines.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the real carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, after obtaining money, disappear.
