Garda area scams: Impersonators posing as authorities to sell fake subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to army magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipality police.

How to Recognize Scams

They often suggest subscriptions to non-existent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect being targeted by individuals who, after obtaining money, disappear.
