GARDA CYCLE PATH: TRENTINO PUSHES FORWARD AMID LANDSLIDES AND SKYROCKETING COSTS. Work has commenced on two new sections of the Garda Cycle Path, located between Limone and Riva del Garda, with an investment exceeding 8 million euros to construct 1,300 meters of bike lane. The construction is progressing at two different speeds: while concerns regarding potential environmental impacts persist in the Brescia section from Salò to Limone, Trentino is moving forward with the awarding of contracts necessary to complete the few kilometers that connect the two towns. Recent works include the segment leading from the Limniadi Tunnel to the Pier Hotel, as well as the section that ends at the entrance of the Titans Tunnel.
Despite numerous concerns raised about the hydrogeological stability of the area and the soaring costs, now estimated at around 81 million euros, the project continues to receive support from the President of the Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, who regards it as a vital initiative for sustainable mobility and tourism around the lake. Francesco Misdaris, the commissioner for the Trentino section of the cycle path, clarified that the new segments are primarily derived from the widening of existing roadways, thereby avoiding significant impacts on the surrounding natural landscape.
