Garda Earthquake: 3.5 Magnitude, Felt Across Upper Brescia Area
Earthquake details, brief but quite intense, occurred last night in the Garda area, between the Baldo ridge, the Basso Sarca plain, and the mountains of upper Brescia. It was 10:14 PM when the earth trembled, startling especially residents of the upper floors. (Many on lower floors did not even notice the quake) in Riva, Malcesine, and Limone. The earthquake’s epicenter was identified precisely among these three inhabited centers by the instruments of the Seismic Room of the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia in Rome.
Magnitude and perception of the quake
The tremor had a magnitude of 3.5, approximately level 4-5 on the Mercalli scale. No damages were reported either in Riva or in the surrounding areas. Concerning Trentino, the shake was felt up to Brentonico.
Population reactions and law enforcement responses
Many citizens’ calls were received by the local fire brigade: people wanted reassurance that there were no problems of any kind. Various calls were also made to the carabinieri.
The Salò unit collected testimonies from residents of Malcesine and Limone, who reported feeling, along with the oscillatory shaking, a clear loud bang.
