Garda Fishermen Featured on Raiuno Mattina Estate Program
Tomorrow the Fishermen’s Cooperative will be the highlight of the morning television program.
Last Saturday, a crew led by director Francesca Apollonio was in Garda to film the work of professional fishermen. The footage will be broadcast and commented on during Raiuno Mattina Estate, the daily TV segment hosted by Puccio Corona and Monica Leofreddi.
The segment dedicated to Garda fishermen airs immediately after the 8 a.m. newscast. Francesca Apollonio, along with cameraman Giampaolo De Carli and the specialized cinematographer Marco Troiano, followed the Garda fishermen from the early morning hours. By 6:30 a.m., they were already offshore filming the net retrieval.
Fishermen’s Activities and Filming Footage
They met Giuseppe Monese, Carlo Simonelli, and Fabrizio Sabaini, engaged with bottom nets and throw nets. The catch included real perches, roach, and small catfish, along with a nice pike weighing about two kilograms. After a few panoramic shots of Punta San Vigilio and the villas between Scaveaghe and Cola Bassa, they headed back to the port.
The crew then followed the fishermen to the sales point on Via Antiche Mura, accompanied by Cooperativa President Enrico Mario Monese, vice president Beppino Monese, and director Sergio Vernesoni, where Claudio Malfer was busy filleting perch.
Later, the camera moved to the Cooperativa headquarters for smoking operations. Inside what was once the municipal slaughterhouse, Orazio Baldassari, a former president of the fishermen, demonstrated fish cleaning, salting, placement in the smoker, and packaging, under the watchful eye of Dr. Piergiorgio Timbalo, veterinarian of Ulss 22.
Fish Types and Quality Control
Small catfish, tench, sardines: these are the fish smoked by the Cooperativa, along with eels. “The products are safe from the outset,” notes Dr. Timbalo, “but we have organized ourselves to monitor this initiative step by step. We will also conduct surprise sampling to guarantee the consumer.”
It seems the smoked fish in the Cooperativa is a strategic focus: it’s the first true step toward the market.
Contents of Raiuno Mattina
The summer edition of Puccio Corona and Monica Leofreddi’s popular program offers news segments, in-depth reports, and weather updates in a more agile and concise format compared to the winter edition.
The Raiuno morning lineup is rich with features mainly centered on summer leisure moments. “Living the sea” is one of Raiuno’s morning segments, and for once, the focus will be… on a freshwater sea like Garda.
