Garda Fraud Alert: Beware of Fake Police Calls Offering Subscriptions

They pretend to be Carabinieri when contacting hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not military personnel but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

after obtaining money, disappear and no longer show up.
