Garda Fraud Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Extract Money

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, proposing subscriptions to the force’s magazines.

These are not members of the military, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, police, fire brigade, or the Municipality police.

How to recognize scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications unrelated to the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect that you have been targeted by someone who,

if they’ve taken money, does not show up again.
